TOURISM IN AND AROUND POITIERS

Poitiers enjoys an international reputation as a tourist destination, thanks to its rich cultural heritage and to its great location. While in Poitiers, participants may enjoy a large choice of walking tours and visits to famous cathedrals and other buildings dating back to the Middle Ages.

Here are a few hints for things do see and to do in the Area:

  • Futuroscope. A large recreation park dedicated to high tech movie technologies including 3-D, dynamic seats, robotics and videogaming, a15-minute drive/ride from Poitiers.
  • Castles. The Loire valley and its famous Renaissance castles, one to three hours from Poitiers by car, bus or train.
  • The beach. The city of La Rochelle, Ile de Ré and the Atlantic coast beaches, a 1.5h car or train.
  • Wine and Cognac. Wine regions of Bordeaux or Cognac (2 to 3-hour drive or train ride).
  • Paris. The conference will end on the day before Bastille day, with celebrations and popular fireworks and concerts in downtown Paris.
